Kiltoom, an ancient seat of a branch of the Nugents, and afterwards of the family of Smyth, is now the estate of the Earl of Longford. A monastery was founded here, at a very early period, by St Nennid. Mr. Archdall styles the place at which the above religious house was founded Kiltoma, and adds, that "Kiltoma is now unknown."  Citation
